Pirates – How to look like one

Get out your Pirate costumes as it is now just under six weeks away before ‘Talk Jack Sparrow costumeLike a Pirate Day’ (September 19th) and increasingly  more people are coming to us to request  costumes and pirate accessories to wear for the day, so that they are not only talking like a pirate, but also looking like one too. At Props & Frocks the pirate is probably one of our most popular costumes and we have a range of outfits and accessories to help you create the perfect look according to your inclination – are you wanting the scurvy sea-dog look or the swashbuckling buccaneer? Aside from the basic costume there are, of course other touches you can add with the help of make-up. Possibly the most obvious enhancement for male pirates (or their impersonators) is the unshaven look. Although obviously achievable through not shaving, it can also be created with use of some cake make-up (black or grey to suit) and what is known as a stipple sponge. This has larger than usual holes and creates a ‘five-a-clock-shadow’ like pattern on the face when patted onto the skin – simple, but effective. Pirate beards are also available if you do not have the time to use make up for the desired effect. You can also add other touches such as cuts and scars with liquid latex or ‘scar tissue’. The best way to swash your buckle in a scary manner!
