Decades Fancy Dress Party

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

How about having a fancy dress party to dance  off the extra weight you have accumilated over the festive period? The third and final day ofLadies 60's | 70's Costume the New Year weekend/Bank Holiday for many of us, (assuming you are not one of those people who have had to work). January is traditionally a time to look back over the past year and assess what we would like to achieve in the new one.  This is why New Year resolutions are often made. Many of these tend to be health related, such as getting fit, losing weight, stopping smoking, etc..

At Props n Frocks we are naturally in the business of promoting people having a good time, so how does that equate with developing a healthy regime, particularly if you are in a party atmosphere, where quantities of food and drink are likely to be consumed? Well, for starters we would advocate plenty of music, plenty of dancing (apparently 1000 kcals can be burned by 2 hours of techno dancing) and plenty of costumes! We have already given you a ‘Resolutions’ costume theme a couple of days ago, so we thought, what else would get everyone going and keep the ‘good’ feeling? Sixties, Seventies, Eighties and now Nineties parties, will certainly help you to shed those pounds (assuming you do get on the dance floor and party the night away). So, if one of your New Year Resolutions is to get fit, why not do it by having some fun at the same time?

Props n Frocks has a huge range of decade costumes suitable for all decades. The website groups the 50s, 60, 70s & 80s all together to make it easier for you to have a browse.  There are some great ideas for couples costumes including:

It’s Time For a 70′s Fancy Dress Party

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

We are trying to give you an alternative to a Christmas fancy dress theme every day. Today we 70s Pimp Costumes & Accessories  have decided on a 1970s fancy dress theme as those born around the Christmas period tend to have a bit of a tough time when it comes to celebrating their birthdays. So, on December 22nd we thought we should take a look at a couple of people who were born this day. Although you might think because of his name that Noel Edmonds was born on December 25th, he actually came into this world on December 22nd 1948.  Although he has presented many light entertainment programmes over the years including ‘Telly Addicts’ ‘Multicoloured Swap Shop’, ‘Noel’s House Party’, ‘Deal or No Deal’, ‘Are you Smarter than a Ten Year Old?’ and most recently ‘Noel’s HQ’, he actually rose to fame in the 1970s, as a DJ on the BBC Radio One Breakfast Show.  Given that on this day a year later, i.e. 1949, the Singer, Songwriter Robin Gibb (& his twin brother Maurice) was born (with elder brother Barry they formed the Bee Gees), we thought it was time to dig out the flares, put on the brightly coloured shirts and jackets or jumpsuits and advocate a 1970s party.

Now, we all love a 70s costume party! It is still one of the most popular costume themes that we are asked for every week in the fancy dress shop. The choice for 70s costumes at Props n Frocks is massive with costumes ranging from mini dresses, to flared trousers and frilly shirts. We even stock platform shoes and boots. If you are local to our base in Essex, why not pop in and you can see our large range of hire costumes as well as all the costumes that we sell online (and in the shop). If you think that you may hire, please bring some proof of your address with you.

Once you have choosen your 1970s fancy dress outfit, you may need some accessories to 70s Abba Fancy Dress Outfit complete your desired look. We stock a large range of 70′s wigs, including afros and flick wigs. In fact we have a wig for whatever style your are trying to achieve. The men may also want to add a bit of bling jewellery like our funky medallions, rings and bracelets and to complete the pimp look, and, why not add a 70s moustache and sideburns?

For the ladies we stock a fantastic range of false eyelashes - just what you need to complete your 70s ladies costumes. We also stock some fantastic glitter earrings.

Punk was massive in the seventies, so this is also a costume style that you may wish to go to the party in. We stock a large range of punk accessories to help you to complete the outfit. If I was going to a 70′s party, I would choose to wear a punk costume, as I love this style of dressing up. Punk is one of those costumes that with a few purchased accessories you can quite easily put together at home.

Let us know what you have worn to a 70′s party before, or what hints you can give to our other readers.

60s & 70s Fancy Dress Costumes

Today’s suggested fancy dress theme is easy to understand.

John Lennon - Beatles Fancy Dress

John Lennon - Beatles Fancy Dress

We think a tribute to one of the great pioneers of British pop is called for, as in October (9th) it would have been John Lennon’s 70th birthday, had he not died tragically on December 8th 1980, aged just 40. To be honest, October was all about Halloween, which is why poor ol’ John had to wait in the wings for a few weeks!

We would have suggested dressing up as Beatles Song Titles, but as our earlier blog on doing this with Cliff Richard’s songs was met with a stony silence we thought we’d just keep it simple. A 1960s theme obviously suggests itself and of course we can offer some great 60s costumes from the early ages of the Beatles, through to the more psychedelic era. A theme that does crop up occasionally is dressing up as one of the characters on the front of the Sergeant Pepper album. With stars such as Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, Mae West & the Beatles themselves gracing the cover, it certainly offers plenty of scope. However, as John Lennon & Yoko Ono’s son Sean was also born this day in 1975, you could always make it a really groovy event, by not only including costumes from the 1960s but also the glam rock, Abba and disco costumes of the 1970s. Props n Frocks has a huge range of 1970s costumes for men and women in stock for next working day delivery.
