Our fancy dress theme today is 20th Century. Today we mark a rather interesting anniversary – the first
flight of a woman across the Atlantic, which occurred in 1928. Of course there has to be a first time for everything, but we are curious to know whether there was intense competition to achieve this first. Also, the way the event is reported in one of our sources of reference ‘the first woman to fly in an aircraft’ suggests that some lady beforehand had done it another way, although we don’t know how – a balloon does not seem a very feasible idea. Anyway, the pioneer in question is Amelia Earhart who, of course subsequently became a famous aviator in her own right. So today’s fancy dress theme is 20th Century Achievements/Events
