Have you ever thought about having a Bad Taste Fancy Dress party? This costume theme always turns up some
interesting costume ideas and can be anything from a mismatch of colours, or fashions, or someone with a bad reputation from past or current history. For example, Bin Laden (we stock a Bin Laden Overhead mask and Desert warrior costume that would make an ideal Bin Laden costume), or Hitler.
In these days of political correctness, there are still some celebrations that occur, which for some would seem to be very un-PC, take for example the legendary performer Al Jolson, who died on October 23rd 1950, i.e. 60 years ago today. The UK Branch of the International Al Jolson Society is presenting a 60th Anniversary celebration of his life. This takes place at the Bromley Court Hotel, Bromley on the weekend of the 23rd & 24th October 2010. At one stage he was dubbed the World’s Greatest Entertainer and nowadays he is best remembered for his legendary performance in the Jazz Singer, the first talking picture back in 1927. This involved him ‘blacking up’ to portray the central character which at the time was considered acceptable and now would be seen as in bad taste. So, that’s the theme for today. Bad taste can mean different things to different people. Sometimes it could be just mixing and matching a range of styles and colours together that clash. Alternatively, it could be something gruesome (and naturally our range of Halloween costumes offers plenty of opportunities) or as with Al Jolson, a costume or creation that is just not acceptable. Whatever your take, at Props n Frocks we have plenty of costumes, accessories and ideas to help you out.
