Today we are going to have a ‘letter T’ fancy dress party and it is all down to a revolution. On December 16th in 1773 that, in a
major act of civil rebellion, a group of Americans disguised themselves as Native Indians, sneaked aboard British ships anchored at Boston Massachusetts and emptied a large proportion of their cargoes of tea into the harbour. This event, the Boston Tea Party, was a protest against the imposition of a Tea Tax on the American colonists and it was one of the key events which eventually lead to the American War of Independence (and they say tea is supposed to have a calming influence). The Tea Party was so iconic that it has recently become the name of a new political movement in America. However, on this side of ‘The Pond’ we still tend to associate Tea-Parties with the Mad Hatter’s gathering of friends in ‘Alice in Wonderland’. In the spirit of the Festive Season, one could propose an Alice in Wonderland Party, but to offer guests a little more variety, the alternative is a ‘T’ Party! So what costumes do we have beginning with the letter T? Well there are the historical costumes based on particular periods such as Tudors, Twenties and Thirties. Then there are the generic costumes and obviously the named characters.
To give you a bit of help, we have produced an information page giving you so many costume ideas for the letter T, you will be spoilt for choice as to which costume you should wear.
