For those who are still thinking about Halloween costumes, but again are not too keen on the
black approach, why not go in a Sexy Devil costume?
Okay, we are going to be slightly sexist and say that this is one for the girls. We know the Head Honcho is supposedly male and that He is a real charmer to get on as well as He does, but for the time being, let us take Liz Hurley’s lead in the Bedazzled remake of 2000 (the original film came out in 1967 and starred Peter Cook as The Devil, with Dudley Moore and Eleanor Bron) and favour the distaff devil look.
At a basic level, for those on a budget, the key elements to a devil of any sort are a forked tail, a pair of horns and possibly one of those little tridents (for prodding the Damned, alias the other partygoers). The horns and tail can usually be purchased either as an ‘Instant Devil’ kit or as separate items and then, in association with an outfit of your own which you consider somewhat sexy, you can create a suitably subtle look. The trident, which might come in several varieties, can be carried or concealed as desired. why not take a look at our entire range of Devil accessories?
At the next level, there are a wide range of ‘Sexy Devil’ outfits both for sale and for hire from us here at Props n Frocks. In this context ‘sexy’ usually also means short and skimpy, which is okay if you’ve the inclination and figure to carry it off, but many would argue that sexy and short are not necessarily synonymous, and there are other ways of making an impression. A little extra effort with makeup and novel wig (incorporating the afore-mentioned horns) can work wonders.
If you are going for the total look then you might be thinking of a change of body colour. Whilst this could be achieved with a red cat-suit or one of the new morphsuits, you might have something a little more primal in mind. Red make-up is most commonly available in ‘cake’ form, but if you are looking to cover a large body area, make-up in a liquid may be more practical. Furthermore, if you have access to an airbrush system such as is used in tanning salons, this can speed up the job. It is also likely to give you a more even coverage and may even allow for some design creativity (but ensure that the make-up products in question are suitable for use with airbrushes – the system owners may be able to advise on this.) Ideally you will need to set or fix the body paint to create the right skin tone and make the look fairly waterproof. There are professional products available (look for ‘fixier spray’) but at a pinch a holding hairspray like Elnett will work.
Final tips – if you are using red around your eyes, ensure the make-up is okay for such use – some are not and black eye-make-up on a red base can work better anyway. Secondly, whatever you do, use professional make-up products, especially if you are going head to toe red – anything else may be the devil to get off!
