Happy Diamond Jubilee

Hopefully today and tomorrow you will all be out celebrating the two June bank Diamond Jubilee Ideasholidays and will not have time to read these blogs. Props & Frocks may be closed for both days (you can still order fancy dress online) , but for those of you who are glued to your computer screens (hopefully, not literally), what can we offer you in the form of other entertainment?

Your area might of course be holding its own street party or general get-together.  Perhaps you might have been lucky enough to get tickets for the free concert at Buckingham Palace? There are also many events and attractions in Essex (and further afield) taking place over the next couple of days, but whatever you choose to do, we hope you have fun and look forward to seeing you on Wednesday when we re-open after the long weekend.

Diamond Jubilee Big Lunch

Today is the day for the Big Lunch. Now in its fourth year, we know that many are combining the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with the lunch, whether it’s an informal picnic, street Union Jack Buntingparty or just a general get together.  So, don your party hat, get out the streamers and enjoy yourselves.  We are open today if you still need Union Jack bunting and other accessories. Obviously we are hoping that the weather will do its bit – especially after its antics in the early part of last month, but even there, we have noted one or two suppliers hedging their bets with a range of union jack wellies! Even if they do not get used this weekend, they will doubtless come in useful for some of the other festivities scheduled for this summer or for this year’s Festival Season, which carries on regardless, despite the lack of the Glastonbury experience.

Props & Frocks stocks a large range of Union Jack products, including:

  • Union Jack Bunting
  • Union Jack Hand Flags
  • Hats
  • Wigs
  • Bow Ties
  • Waistcoats
  • Headbands
  • Dresses

Prince & Princess Fancy Dress Theme

In the lead up to the Jubilee, many schools are having a Prince & Princess costume day.Princess Fancy Dress Ideas

This costume theme is always easier for the girls than the boys. We also stock a great range of crowns and royalty robes for an easy option. It may also be worth looking at our historical costumes for other princess costume ideas.

Here are some of our Prince & Princess costume ideas:

  • Robin Hood – Prince of Thieves
  • Prince Caspian
  • Cinderella
  • Jasmine
  • AladdinPrince Cloak
  • The Beast
  • Rapunzel

  • Pocahontas
  • Mulan
  • Tiana

Tomorrow sees the official launch of that ‘other’ eagerly awaited Snow White film, ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’. Many found the earlier rendition of Mirror Mirror, released in April 2012, a bit too sugary sweet for their liking, and the casting of Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen (despite some fascinating costume creations) a tad unbelievable. But isn’t that what fairy stories are all about?

This latest offering on the Snow White story has an altogether different feel to it, being very much darker and ‘dirtier’ and we will be interested to see how the two compare. Here at Props & Frocks, we are often called upon for characters from the classic fairy tales, with Snow White and Cinderella, being our two most popular ‘princess’ requests. This weekend, we have several children donning their princess outfits to join in the jubilee fun. The boys might not be so keen to be princes, but swords, capes and crowns are still proving popular.  Pirates also seem to be moving fast.  If you are planning to go to an event over the next few days and need any props or frocks, you know where to come.

Queen’s Jubilee Party Ideas

Stock up on your Union Jack flags as next Sunday it’s the Big Jubilee Lunch and time to break out the festive bunting up and down the land, as neighbourhoods, streetsUnion Jack Bunting and the general public join together, not only celebrating the Big Lunch (which is now in its fourth year) but also the 60 years of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. We were mentioning a few days ago about the longevity of some TV programmes, some of which were first seen in the decade when the Queen ascended the throne.  The length of the Queen’s reign is certainly something to be celebrated, whether you are a royalist or a republican, so find out what’s going on in your area and get involved, after all isn’t this supposed to be what localism is all about?

Props & Frocks has a large union jack range of costumes, wigs, hats & party accessories including flags and bunting.

Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Fancy Dress

This time last year people were getting excited by the impending wedding of William and Kate (sorry, Catherine) on the 29th – did you remember toBritish Flag Morphsuit get your anniversary card off to them in time (and beat the postal increase)? This year, a little later, in June, but with the slow build-up of a national tour already started, we have the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, plus the odd sporting event. At this rate, barring the potential of a royal Happy Event (a few of the chat-mags are already speculating), 2013 is going to be a bit of an anti-climax. But that is next year and right here and now it is a good time to be advancing those plans for helping the Queen celebrate, with a little help from our extensive range of patriotic costumes, merchandise and decorations here at Props & Frocks.

We are starting to get a lot of interest in our Jubilee range of fancy dress and accessories. Shops, like us, are all in the same boat, we all try and second guess the general public. Is the Jubilee going to be as big a ‘hit’ as the wedding was last year? Well, we actually think so, and have got really good stocks of everything red, white and blue!

Our Diamond Jubilee merchandise includes:

  • Union Jack Costumes (waistcoats for the men, & dress for the ladies)
  • Sequin Union Jack Bow Ties – already a massive hit!
  • Union Jack hats
  • Union Jack Bunting
  • Union Jack Bunting, hand flags and car flags
  • And, even Union Jack Morphsuits!!!

So, don’t miss out, once they’ve gone, they’ve gone
