Elvis Fancy Dress Costumes

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

Today we take a look at Elvis costumes. Yesterday, we were discussing America (or at least its States) and today weElvis Fancy Dress Ideas head towards the Wedding Capital of the World, Las Vegas, situated in the Nevada desert. Why particularly today?  Well, 45 years ago on May 1st 1967, one Elvis Aaron Presley married Priscilla Beaulieu in Vegas.

Despite his death, just 10 years later in August 1977, Elvis is still one of the most iconic and widely recognised stars when it comes to costumes. His Vegas style jumpsuit is one of the enduring images of the Twentieth Century and it is an extremely popular costume request for all sorts of themes such as 1970s, Pop Stars, Musical Stars and Dead Icons. Although the traditional look is white, it does come in a range of assorted colours and styles. Coupled with the Elvis wig, trademark sunglasses, bling jewellery and medallions, you are sure to make an impression.

Some Elvis Costume Ideas:

  • American GI costume
  • Jewelled Jumpsuit
  • Hawaiian Shirt – from the film Blue Hawaii
  • Western Man – Love Me Tender
  • Boxer – Kid Galahad
  • Racing Car Driver – Spinout
  • Doctor – Change of Habit
  • Gold Jacket – during the 50′s

Pop Stars Fancy Dress Theme

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

We are going to suggest a ‘Pop stars’ Fancy dress party today as today, December 2nd we say Happy Birthday to Britney

Spears, born 1981. After an early media breakthrough as a Disney Mouseketeer in the 1990s (along with Christine Aguilera), Miss Spears has certainly made her mark on modern pop history. It was Britney who single-handedly revitalised the interest in school-girl outfits with her breakthrough single and video ‘One More Time’ (we won’t blame her for the revival of the St Trinians’ movies). She was also one of those who pioneered the principle of using several different costumes in a single video to showcase her versatility and talent, ‘Toxic’ being a classic example. However, there were a few down moments – her film ‘Crossroads’ was not well received (could she not see the signs when the attempt to revive Crossroads on ITV failed?). She also rather derailed the Britney impressionist market for a time when she shaved her head and was in the news for almost everything except her music. Although others like Lady Gaga are now hogging the media spotlight, we think today’s a good day to celebrate Britney and her counterparts – it is also Nelly Furtado’s birthday today! (born 1978).

Pop stars is quite a good costume theme as you can look at current stars like the aforementioned Lady Gaga and Cheryl Cole, or go back in time through the various decades, to get a huge choice of pop star costumes.  It is also a good idea to look at some pop videos that are made for songs as these will give you plenty of costume inspiration, for example, in Madonna’s ‘Vogue’ video, she wears a Georgian fancy dress outfit.

Famous People Fancy Dress Party

Sunday, November 14th, 2010
Prince Charles Mask

Prince Charles Mask

We thought it was about time we promoted having a Famous People themed fancy dress party. November 14th 2010 will be Prince Charles’ 62nd birthday and there is an impressive list of people who were also born on this day.  These include the artist Claude Monet (1840); the American composer and conductor Aaron Copeland (1900); the actress Veronica Lake (1922); King Hussein of Jordan (1935); the American Dancer Louise Brooks (1906) and former Prime Minister of the republic of India, Jawaharlal Nehru (1889).  Not sure how you could portray many of the above, although perhaps looking at their ‘profession’ may be an idea.  Artist, actor, dancer, Heir apparent, etc., might be a way forward. Alternatively, you could look at other famous people (both living and dead). These could include figures from history, such as the Kings and Queens of Britain. Alternatively, look at those in the public eye such as Pop Stars, Actors, Actresses and other celebrities.

We have a large range of famous people masks including the Queen, Prince Charles, David Jason (as Del Boy) and Elton John masks to name just a small selection from the list.

Some famous people costume suggestions:

  • Elvis Presley – costumes and accessories available to purchase
  • Marilyn Monroe – costumes available for both the white halterneck dress and the pink ‘Happy Birthday’ dress
  • Anne Bolyne – use any Tudor style ladies costume
  • Audrey Hepburn – costume available to purchase
  • Freddy Mercury - costumes available to purchase
  • Vivien Leigh – use a Scarlett O’Hara style costume
  • William Shakespeare – use a Tudor Man costume
  • Mary Quant – Black & White 60′s costume
  • Mike Myers – Austin Powers Costume

Whatever your take, we’re sure we will have something to help.
