Today, we look at the range of Beehive wigs that are available as we were mentioning Dusty Springfield and her distinctive beehive hairstyle yesterday. The style is key to the look and yet it is not one that is easily achieved, even if you have the time, expertise and, of course, hair. Wigs are the obvious way forward, but more than most, it is vitally important that your towering tresses stay anchored, so in addition to the wig itself, ensure that you have a good wig cap available for anchorage. That said, the beehive offers so many options, helping with everything from your Hepburn Holly Golightly (Breakfast at Tiffany’s) impression, to the exaggerated bouffants seen in ‘Hairspray’ and other 1950s/1960s-based musicals. There are even horror references, with both, Elvira, Mistress of Darkness and The Bride of Frankenstein being big beehive fans.
Most costumes that require a beehive wig also tend to need big eyelashes to help to complete, Props & Frocks stock a wide range of false eyelashes in all sort of colours
We recommend that beehive wigs are stored on a polystyrene head to help them to keep their shape.
During these poor economic times, you may decide that going for an all out fancy dress party may be pushing your guests too far, so why not have a Fantastic Hair Fancy Dress Night?
You get all the benefits of a fancy dress night including:
Laughing all night long
Guests chatting to people they do not know, a great way to break down barriers
Fantastic pictures & memories
Your guests can choose to just do something nutty with their own hair with one of the many products available to create weird shape, add colour with our brilliant coloured hair sprays (not to be used on coloured or treated hair), or why not wear one of our fancy dress wigs?
Our costume wigs come in all sorts of shapes and sizes from spiky punk wigs, hippy wigs and glamorous ladies wigs.
Most fancy dress wigs will be made from nylon, although this is done for cheapness it does mean that you are unable to use any heat to style it, as it will melt.
We recommend that fancy dress wigs are washed in warm water with a drop of fabric conditioner, rinsed and allowed to air dry. Try and store on a polystyrene head to keep the shape. Never brush a nylon wig as it will cause the hair to frizz.
Today in1863 saw the birth of the co-creator of arguably the most famous of luxury cars – Henry Royce of Rolls-Royce fame. Within our own field of costuming, there are many who have given their names to items of apparel and therefore live on in curious ways: Items such as the Wellington boot and the high Pompadour wig-hairstyle are obvious, but others seem to have made their mark just by doing something original (or eccentric). For example, the 17th century painter Van Dyck with his beard-style or Lily Langtry (also known as ‘Jersey Lily’) whose skin-tight dresses in a material which became known as ‘jersey’ predated lycra and spandex by almost one hundred years. For those who have wondered why a red huntsman’s jacket is known as ‘Hunting Pink’ it was because the tailor who helped popularise it was a Mr Pinkie. Even some authors have managed to create a name for themselves in fashions: JM Barrie, aside from apparently ‘inventing’ the forename Wendy, created a distinctive collar style, named after Peter Pan, American author Washington Irving gave the name knickerbockers to breeches with baggy knees (as opposed to pantaloons which came from an Italian panto character), and the Scots poet Robert Burns described a distinctive hat, named after the hero of his novel ‘Tam o’Shanter’.
For those who do not want to go to the expense of a full fancy dress outfit or are on a low budget, here at Props and Frocks we have a range of suitable accessories for you to choose from. Our fantastic array of fancy dress wigs in different colours and styles are particularly popular for those running as a group. Although we have a wide assortment of wigs in different styles, those that tend to be purchased most are the curly pop wigs, which are available in a range of funky colours. Some groups may choose to team wigs with matching tutus, wands and fairy wings, whilst others will look at adopting a wig and funny glasses approach. If your aim is not to be recognised, why not have a look at our selection of quality card masks, based on famous people? The Royal Family masks are by far our most popular set at present, although the new TOWIE masks that were launched last month are being much requested. Whatever your requirements or ideas come and have a look at how we can help. Don’t forget we also offer an online service for those not based in Essex.
Don’t forget to check out our range of sale items, you can get lots of cheap fancy dress items at brilliant prices
If you have got a Halloween costume, but need a wig, at Props N Frocks we have some great Halloween wigs for sale. These are non-returnable for health and hygiene reasons (unless of course the wig is faulty). We are often asked ‘what is the best method of putting on a wig correctly?’ If you have a lot of your own hair to get rid of we would recommend you purchase a wig cap. This has two advantages. Firstly, it allows you to tuck away all of your own hair, without going to the trouble of pinning it all up prior to putting it on. Secondly it also gives you a good base to anchor the wig to. Never turn the wig upside down, instead, keep the wig the right way up. One of your hands should hold the front of the wig and then use your other hand to pull the back of the wig down over your head. Once it is in a rough position you can then adjust and tuck any loose hairs away.
Most fancy dress wigs are made on a netted material, this means it will be difficult to put the wig into a high ponytail as the netting will be seen. some wigs have more hair than others and you will be able to pin bits of them up. don’t forget, you can always ring one of our customer care team who will be happy to advise you about any of our Halloween wigs
If you want to use the wig more than once, the care and maintenance of your wig is also an important consideration. Please note, some of the cheaper wigs, in particular many of the black ones, are only designed to be used the once, as they can get extremely matted (which is great for that witchy look!)
There are a range of wig shampoos and conditioners on the market to help keep your wigs in best condition. We have found that just rinsing the wig in warm water with a small drop of fabric conditioner is normally enough to freshen up the wig. Rinse well. Once washed, wigs are best dried flat and styled whilst still damp. It should also be noted that hairspray should not be used on fancy dress wigs, as it can make them flammable. Do not use any form of heat on the wig as it will melt.
We have a huge selection of different wigs available, so whatever your look for Halloween (or for that matter any other party) take a look at what’s on offer here at Props N Frocks.
Today, you can have your very own ‘blonde moment’ with our fancy dress theme suggestion…
Blonde Rockstar Wig
On November 21st we say happy 65th birthday to comedy actress Goldie Hawn who was born in 1945 and started her screen career as a body-painted bikini-girl in ‘Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In’. As yesterday, November 20th, was the birthday of Bo Derek, another actress of the 80s, we thought we should advocate a celebration on all things blond(e). Wigs are the obvious essential for this theme (unless of course you have blonde hair already). If you want to go for the blonde hair, blue eyed look, why not check out our fantastic range of coloured contact lenses? Priced at £19.95 they will certainly get you noticed. Take a look at our huge range of blonde fancy dress wigs that will give you a wide choice of potential looks (do check descriptions as many wigs have colour options that are different from the main images). Other obvious blonde female icons will of course include Lady Penelope from Thunderbirds, Penelope Pitstop from Wacky Races and of course Barbie. But what about blonde males?
Well aside from Mr Blonde, the psychopath played by Michael Madsen in ‘Reservoir Dogs’, there are some males who have gone blonde, such as Brad Pitt, David Beckham and Peter Andre. Then there are the blonde male singers, such as Rod Stewart, David Bowie and Jarvis Cocker. Sometimes you need to think outside the box (and close to the male heart), such as the range of Continental ‘blonde’ (light-coloured) beers, some with names that relate to particular characters such as Duvel (or Devil), Satan, Lucifer, Piraat, etc., although you might need to explain it to some people. Of course there is a theory that some blondes don’t have to try too hard and can get others to do their thinking for them!
You may have decided on your Halloween costume for this year but you may still need a wig to help to complete your desired look. Props n Frocks stocks a huge range of halloween wigs that
Mens Halloween Wig - Beetlejuice

Men also have a good choice of wigs to choose from, including some great Devil wigs, and wigs for Beetlejuice and other Halloween costumes and a good choice of gothic style wigs.

Please Note: If your costume includes a hat, make sure that the hat is large enough to get a wig on underneath.
Most fancy dress wigs will be made from a synthetic material which helps to keep the costs down. The wig will eventually start to frizz with numerous wears, or, if it has brushed too hard.
How To Put Your Halloween Wig On Correctly
Control your own hair (a wig cap or hairnet are ideal)
Take your wig from its packaging. Use your fingers to style it.
Hold the front of the wig (near the fringe) with one hand. Using your other hand, ease the net base over your own hair.
Tuck in your loose hairs and adjust the wig corerctly on your head.
DO NOT tip the wig upside down before plaing on your head. This may be an easier way to put the wig on but your wig will look terrible and not last very long.

How To Care For Your Halloween Wig
Try and keep your wig on a polystyrene head - we do stock these – as it will stop, especially long haired wigs, from getting tangled.
Use your fingers, or a soft baby’s brush to gently brush the hair. Do not use a hard brush as it will break the hair and cause the wig to frizz.
Gently swirl the wig in warm water that has a drop of fabric conditioner in it. Rinse and allow to air dry.
Do not use any form of heat to dry or to style the wig as it will be damaged, or even melt.
Keep all wigs away from cigarettes and naked flames.
Most wigs will be packaged in a thin hairnet. Use this to keep your own hair tidy underneath. We do stock wig caps that are better quality and provide a good base for your wig.
Please Note: Due to hygiene reasons, we are unable to refund wigs as per our standard Returns Policy.
