Okay, just stick with today’s fancy dress theme If yesterday, the 4th, was about revolutionary fashion, today is about revolution itself as we come to Guy Fawkes Night. In these days of anti-terror alerts and violence, it seems strange that we in England have spent so many years celebrating a failed assassination plot. Admittedly the celebrations are not as popular as they used to be, but this is mainly because a) Halloween has taken over as the ‘celebration of choice’ for many (it’s usually more conveniently close to half-term) and b) fireworks have become very expensive and the children who used to do ‘penny for the guy’ have now found Trick or Treat more lucrative. Be that as it may, there are those who will not be thwarted and if you must have a fireworks party then here are a few fancy dress suggestions:
- The Roman candle – Roman Senator’s outfit – holding a candle
- The Catherine Wheel – a female racing driver
- The Jumping Jack – Jack Sparrow with a pogo stick?
- Banger – Hot dog Costume - okay we are clutching at straws!
- Rocket – David Bowie Costume
- Cake - Birthday Cake Hat
- Fish – Any fish related costume or accessory
- Spider – Spider costume
Well, you get the general idea. There are plenty of fireworks out there with some interesting names just waiting for you to be creative. And if it’s too wet or cold to play outdoors, add in a little film entertainment by watching ‘V for Vendetta’, an underrated little movie which uses the Guy Fawkes story as its base.
