Two of the fundamentally important aspects of any party or event are the food and drink. Many people may associate the name of Louis Pasteur with pasteurised milk, (two of his five children died of typhoid and he devoted his life to combating the disease), but few know that en route to achieving his success in combating disease, he worked closely with wine-growers of France to eliminate germs in the fermentation process, and was awarded a patent for the manufacture of beer and the treatment of yeast, today in 1873. So that’s a good reason to raise a glass or two at a Food and Drink event today. Aside from the real thing, there are a wide range of food and drink costumes on the market from pizza slices and hotdogs to bottles of beer and martini glasses. Most are foam-based, which at least makes them lightweight, but some might prove impractical in certain party conditions – not that practicality will necessarily put people off a Good Idea!
