Garden Themed Fancy Dress Party

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

Today, we propose a Garden Theme Costume party. After the unusual weather of the last few months – a very cold winter, a dry April and general shortage of rain, the Chelsea Flower Show starts today and runs until May 28th. Even if you have not had the urge (or the wherewithal) to attend this event, there is usually sufficient press coverage and promotion for people to be aware of its existence.

When it comes down to it, the Flower Show is rather like a costume party-cum-masquerade-ball for gardens, in which dedicated experts put together creations, only designed to last for a short period of time, with a view to winning some prizes. Occasionally there is some cross-over when we, or other costumiers, are asked to supply outfits, props or accessories to help complement the required effect at such events. We are also now entering the garden party season, and even if your garden does not get invited to parties that much, it’s time to prepare for al fresco entertainment opportunities (whilst keeping a Plan B in mind in the event of wet weather!)

Some garden Themed Costume Ideas for you:

  • Bill & Ben – The Flowerpot Men
  • Weed from Bill & Ben
  • Bumble Bees – we stock a whole range of insect costumes and wings including butterfly, bees and ladybirds
  • Dragonflies – we stock some lovely dragonfly wings
  • Gnome costumes – use a Smurf or Dwarf costume
  • Fish
  • Statues
  • Fairies – mythical garden residents
  • The Queen – who holds famous garden parties

This costume theme encourages all of you who want to think a bit outside the box, with a bit of time and imagination, why not also attend as:

  • Lawn – use artificial turf
  • Tree
  • Autumn leaves – this will involve making and cutting up a large amount of brown/red leaves to cover your outfit in

Garden Party Fancy Dress

Sunday, February 6th, 2011

Today, we offer you a Garden Party as our fancy dress theme (although at this time of the year, we predict it will beLadies Butterfly Fancy Dress Outfit an indoor event!)

As we all hopefully know, next year will be the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and it was upon this day in 1952 that her father George VI passed away and Elizabeth became ‘regnant’ (although the actual coronation did not occur until June the following year). Thus began one of the longest reigns in British history, with being invited to one of the queen’s Garden parties that are held throughout the summer a huge honour. Many have already started their preparations for next year’s great event. (Apparently there’s some sporting occasion of note also happening).

Meanwhile, in our search for a theme for the day, we thought we would go for ‘Gardeners’ World’ as today is the feast day of St. Dorothy, Patron Saint of Gardeners, and on this day in1783 ‘Capability’ Brown, one of the country’s greatest landscape artists died. Obviously it’s not quite time to get out and have a Garden Party as such, but there’s plenty of potential for an indoor event. Come to us here at Props n Frocks and let’s see if we can help grow some enthusiasm for your chosen project.

Some Garden Costumes and accessories that you may like to wear include:

  • Bumble Bee Wings
  • Ladybird Wings
  • Bumble Bee Costumes

  • Gnome – use a Dwarf costume
  • Flower Power Costumes (okay, we know that it is pushing it but it does give you some more costume choice!)
