Today we look at ‘Great Leaders’ as our fancy dress theme. Now, everyone’s opinion of what, or is, a great
leader will be different, so there may be some interesting conversations at your costume party!
As regular readers will already know, Props n Frocks always looks at things a little bit differently to many people, and today, we thought we’d give you a list of our costume ideas for this fancy dress theme, which although will have many people that you would probably be thinking about, we’ve added a few that you may not have thought about…

It’s the US President’s birthday today, so we say happy 50th to Barack Obama, but since we have done America once or twice this month and could not think of an appropriate theme, we thought we would look north to the Edinburgh Festival, more or less starting today. We say more or less because Edinburgh is not just one festival, it’s many (Arts, Fringe, Film, Book) and although today is an official start date, events tend to spread into the run-up period and across the entire Edinburgh district. On the Fringe, if you can find a performing space and some accommodation (some combine the two) you can compete with the several hundred other Festival attractions for your moment of glory.
Under the circumstances, this seems to be a good opportunity to plan an ‘improv, ‘open mic’ or karaoke event, where participants can do their party piece or fulfil their performing dreams. As Obama’s slogan once said ‘Yes We Can’.
