‘The Dark Side’ is our fancy dress suggestion for today & this will really get your brain cells working. We have choosen this costume theme today as several events in history on January 16th show major turning points and upsets.
For instance in 550, during the final days of the Gothic Wars, the Ostragoths succeeded in penetrating Rome’s defences and undermine the whole basis of the hitherto great Roman Empire.
In 1770, the Scottish Parliament ratified the Act of Union, which would lead to the eventual creation of Great Britain, and thus the basis of the British Empire. In 1945 Adolf Hitler began to realise that the tide of the Second World War was now turned against him and, entering his Führerbunker shelter, started issuing increasingly desperate orders, including a scorched earth policy to destroy Germany’s infrastructure because ‘if it could not win, it did not deserve to survive’.
If all that’s a little too heavy, but you still want to celebrate the Darkside, there’s the fact that today in 1948 the American director John Carpenter was born. His work spans everything from the quirky ‘Dark Star’ (the crew of a space-ship get bored blowing up planets) to the horror-flicks ‘Halloween’ and ‘The Fog’ and the dystopian (it means ‘dismal future’) ‘Escape from New York’. Bloody Blade
Halloween weapons do come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and it does depend as to which outfit you have decided to wear. If you have choosen to wear a Grim Reaper Costume, then you must have a scythe to complete the look. A trident is a must for a Devil outfit, we do stock various devil tridents, and a lovely sequin one for the ladies.
If you are going to be wearing any sort of bloody costume (including doctor and nurse costumes), you will need a bloodied weapon. We stock bloody knives and Chainsaws - ideal for Friday 13th costumes. We also stock a great range of fake blood to cover your body and clothing to help you to get your desired effect.
We also stock Halloween Axes - great for Executioner costumes.
If you are looking to give your child a fancy dress weapon to go to school with, please check with the school first, as we have found that many schools will not encourage their pupils to bring fake weapons onto the school premises.

A cape can be used to create a simple, and cost effective, Halloween costume. All you need to do is wear dark clothes underneath, and add make up, or a mask, and you have an easy Halloween outfit. If you really just do not ‘do’ dressing up’, then wear a mask, not make up, as at least you will be able to take the mask off once you have made your entrance. There are some great half face masks, such as this fantastic wizard Mask on the market that allow you to continue to be able to talk, eat, and importantly, drink without removing the mask from your face.
A lot of our customers will purchase a cloak to provide an extra layer of warmth, especially if they are out with the kids ‘Trick or Treating’. One of our most popular capes in this lovely velvet style hooded cape, which is really good quality – the image does not do it justice! Most cloaks are suitable for both male and female use.
If you are looking for a cheap cape, you can’t go wrong with this PVC cape. It is suitable for both adults and children and can even be cut down to size.

are suitable for a gothic or Halloween outfit. Some wigs are available in multi colour options so always look at the style of the wig first and then see if it comes in the colour you are looking for. We have so many witch wigs to choose from, it just depends on your own preference. Are you looking for a long straight black wig, or would you prefer one with a bit of a curl? Please Note: If your costume includes a hat, make sure that the hat is large enough to get a wig on underneath.
Most fancy dress wigs will be made from a synthetic material which helps to keep the costs down. The wig will eventually start to frizz with numerous wears, or, if it has brushed too hard.
How To Put Your Halloween Wig On Correctly
Control your own hair (a wig cap or hairnet are ideal)
Take your wig from its packaging. Use your fingers to style it.
Hold the front of the wig (near the fringe) with one hand. Using your other hand, ease the net base over your own hair.
Tuck in your loose hairs and adjust the wig corerctly on your head.
DO NOT tip the wig upside down before plaing on your head. This may be an easier way to put the wig on but your wig will look terrible and not last very long.

How To Care For Your Halloween Wig
Try and keep your wig on a polystyrene head - we do stock these – as it will stop, especially long haired wigs, from getting tangled.
Use your fingers, or a soft baby’s brush to gently brush the hair. Do not use a hard brush as it will break the hair and cause the wig to frizz.
Gently swirl the wig in warm water that has a drop of fabric conditioner in it. Rinse and allow to air dry.
Do not use any form of heat to dry or to style the wig as it will be damaged, or even melt.
Keep all wigs away from cigarettes and naked flames.
Most wigs will be packaged in a thin hairnet. Use this to keep your own hair tidy underneath. We do stock wig caps that are better quality and provide a good base for your wig.
