Today, we advocate a Heartthrob Fancy Dress.
To look for your costume inspiration think about film actors (your costume would be based on their famous character) , some of our suggestions are as follows:
- Sean Connery, or one of the other 007 actors
- Rita Hayworth

- Clark Gable – Rhett Butler
- Leonardo di Caprio – numerous films to choose from – Jack Dawson from Titanic
- Halle Berry – Catwoman
- Tom Cruise – Maverick – Top Gun
- Officer & a Gentleman
- Johnny Depp – so many to choose from but as a Heartthrob probably a Jack Sparrow costume
- Angelina Jolie – Lara Croft
- Colin Firth – Mr Darcy
- Scarlett Johansson

Or maybe you just love a man, or girl in a uniform. Take a look at our range of Uniform costumes.
We were so busy talking about teddies yesterday that we forgot to note that it was Hugh Grant’s 51st birthday. We are prompted into this observation by the coincidental fact that today sees the 51st of another British actor of note (and recent Oscar winner), Colin Firth. The obvious link between the two is that they were rivals for the affections of Miss Bridget Jones, the diary-writing singleton who has featured in two films and, apparently, is about to appear in a third.
We are at a bit of a loss to suggest how you portray Hugh Grant by means of costume as, for the most part, his film roles have all been variations on a similar theme (although who can remember his dramatic role as a medic fighting a corrupt doctor played by Gene Hackman in ‘Extreme Measures’ (1996)?).
There is a little more potential with Mr Firth – not only is he regarded by many as ‘the’ Mr Darcy from Pride and Prejudice, but he played prominent Tudor Lord Wessex in ‘Shakespeare in Love’ and, of course, played King George VI in ‘The King’s Speech’. We do not actually have the ornate naval outfit seen in the later scenes, but we’re sure we can improvise an alternative if required. As for a theme for the day, we thought ‘Heartthrobs’ or ‘Romantic Couples’ was appropriate.
