Today we are having a London Underground Stations Costume partyLondon Underground Station Costume Ideas

Now if you ever get asked to this type of fancy dress party, do not despair as Props n Frocks have a page full of great London Underground Costume ideas and how to do them. Why not share it on Facebook & Twitter so you can give it to everyone else going to the party so they can get some great ideas too?

Today we are going Underground as we celebrate a small piece of transport history. The world’s first underground tube railway opened in London in 1870, close to where Tower Bridge now stands. It was not the first underground railway, but the Tower Tunnel under the Thames that the railway used was built using cast-iron circular tube sections.  Unfortunately the carriage that transported people through the tunnel proved slow and the tunnel was later converted to pedestrian use (for a fee). It proved a popular crossing-point until Tower Bridge (which was free to use) opened in 1894 when it fell into disuse. This ‘tube’ still exists but now carries water-pipes and telecoms and has no part in the London Underground Tube network of nowadays.

Needless to say, today’s the day to dust off our ever so helpful guide to costuming for an Underground Stations event!

Olympic Themed Fancy Dress Party

Sunday, July 31st, 2011

Olympics is the costume theme of the day as we could not get to the end of July without mentioning what will beRed, White Blue Bunting taking place this time next year. The official opening ceremony for the London 2012 Olympic Games is scheduled for Friday July 27th.

The games themselves will be on until August 12th, with the Paralympic Games from August 29th-September 9th.  This is when the eyes of the world will be on London and here in Essex we will of course be watching. Earlier in the month on July 5th and 6th the Olympic flame will be visiting local towns Ipswich and Chelmsford, moving onto Cambridge on the 7th, Luton in Bedfordshire on the 8th, Oxford on the 9th and Reading in Berkshire on the 10th.

For those who did not get tickets, why not think about getting together with friends and neighbours and having your own Olympic opening ceremony event? There are likely to be several big screens set up in pubs, clubs and sporting venues throughout the country and if you need help with decorations and accessories you know where to come.

What about dressing up too?  You could get your guests to dress up as an actual country and you could even have games throughout the evening, with medal ceremonies as you go! Or maybe have London as your costume theme – you could even have a London Underground Fancy dress party – do not despair, we’ve loads of great Underground costume ideas here.

Take a look at this blog for some more great Olympic Costume ideas….

London Underground Station Fancy Dress Theme

Saturday, April 16th, 2011

Today’s costume theme is in honour of Gerry Rafferty who died earlier this year, but was born this day in 1947. We take theHeathrow Station opportunity to celebrate one of his most popular musical hits, ‘Baker Street’.  Now hosting a party with this title might seem a bit limiting and probably is, after all how many bakers and Sherlock Holmes characters do you want?  Plus, the scope for females may be even more limiting (although there is a ladies Sherlock Holmes costume on the market.  Widening out the theme, a London Underground party would offer much more scope. You don’t just have to come in an Angel or a Black Friar costume. An assortment of ideas can be found in our London Underground Costume Ideas page.

London Underground Station Fancy Dress Theme

Monday, January 10th, 2011

Today’s fancy dress theme is ‘London Underground Stations’ as on this day in 1863, a regular tudor Man costume - Use for Stratford service began on a part of the Metropolitan Railway between Paddington Station and Farringdon Street in London. This became part of the Metropolitan Line on the London Underground and, as such, is the oldest part of the Tube network. Obviously we thought that our theme today should be London Underground.

This is a costume theme that allows for novel improvisation and visual puns, and even the occasional conventional outfit can be used or slightly modified. There are over 250 stations on the Underground network and during its time, the system has been associated with around 340 stations: For a few years in the 1880s, the District line even ran as far as Windsor, sharing tracks with Great Western Railway! Obviously if you do not live or commute in the London area this theme is a little parochial, but you can find some sample suggestions below and on our special ‘Underground’ theme costume ideas page.

This fancy dress theme can be adapted to where you live in this country, or even the world. What about using the New York subway in the same way?

This is a really fun fancy dress theme, once you get over the initial shock of ‘what can I wear to thisMaid Costume - add a veil for Maida Vale party?’ and once you start seeing some of our costume ideas, you will see that it is not as difficult as your first thought. You could wear a ladies convict costume for Holloway, a wombles costume for wimbledon, even a football kit for Wembley – you see it is not that difficult.

If you do not think that your guests will be able to ‘think outside of the box’ on this one, just print out the huge amount of London Underground Costume ideas that we have already done for you, and include it in your invitation.

You could have a competition running during the evening, where your guests have to go around trying to work out which station everyone has gone as. This is also a great way to get your guests talking to each other straight away.

This is one of those costume themes that people will be talking about before the party and long after it has finished (for all the right reasons).

Another great theme for your next fancy dress party!

If you have friends who are happy to ‘think outside the box’ then this is the theme to choose. It is surprising how the London Underground Costume theme is catching on, at one point we would only be asked for costume ideas once or twice a year, but now it is every month – we think that maybe people are getting braver and trying out some new fancy dress themes.

Props n Frocks are the fancy dress experts, not only do we offer you 1000s of costumes and accessories to purchase online (or in store), we also provide our customers with the information to have the fancy dress party of the year!

At first glance it seems a very difficult theme, but believe us when we say that there are loads and loads of costume choices, and, even some easy suggestions for your guests who just don’t do the ‘dressing up’ thing!

We have prepared an information page full of costume ideas for a London Underground Station fancy dress party. Why not print it off and send it out along with the invitations to give your guests all the inspiration they will need?
