Burton’s new take on the Frankenstein legend ‘Edward Scissorhands’ premiered. The film starred Johnny Depp as the unfortunate boy whose inventor died before being able to replace his creation’s scissorhands with more practical appendages. The film also featured Winona Ryder as the girl who finds Edward and attempts to rehabilitate him. Whilst there are costumes available for Edward, a theme built around him might be a little limiting (although it might well work for a convention of hairdressers – one of the skills Edward tries his-er-hand/scissor at). Instead we thought today was a good day to celebrate ‘Misfits’, be they society outcasts such as Frankenstein or Quasimodo, the Hunch-back of Notre Dame (or go as a French sandwich version – the Lunchpack of Notre Dame). Then there are the classic eccentrics such as Willie Wonka or the Mad Hatter (strangely, another couple of roles Mr Depp has tackled) or just someone who feels misunderstood – Little Red Riding Hoodie, a Fairly Gothmother or any typical teenager.
