Are you dressing up in a costume in November as this tends to be a month where charity fundraising is a big
issue? On Tuesday, November 8th we spoke about a ‘Behind the Mask’ theme event, and this month in particular, tends to see a number of masked balls breaking out throughout the country, many looking at fundraising for good causes. In the last couple of days we have mentioned two very good fundraising campaigns at opposite ends of the spectrum, one which focuses on helping children in need, wherever they are, and the other concerned with the welfare and support of Servicemen/women past and present and their families. There are other charities who also deserve people’s support and masked balls are just one type of event which raises monies for local & national good causes.
Most people who come to Props n Frocks for a Venetian-style mask may have already chosen the outfit they wish to wear – many masked balls tend to be focused on ‘black tie’ and ball gowns and cocktail dress approach. A mask is needed to complement the outfit. At P&F we offer three different types of Venetian Mask. Firstly, there is the lorgnette (or as some people put it “the stick”) approach. This means that the mask is free from the face and will not mess up your hair. It does however have the disadvantage of it needing to be held for the duration of the event, leaving you only with one hand available for holding plates, glasses, etc.. The other two options are the elastic/ribboned approach where the mask is put over the head, concealing your face all evening. The alternative is a mask featuring an in-built headband. This method can be particularly popular where the mask is perhaps a bit heavier than holding up with standard narrow elastic would allow.
Another fundraiser, that is definitely gathering a following is Movember. This is a moustache growing charity raising funds for male cancer. Basically, you start off clean shaven on the 1st of Movember, and then throughout this month you grow your own style of moustache. Or, you purchase one of our fantastic fancy dress moustaches and wear it for charity! For more information check out the Movember wesbite
