Today, we have decided on a Bingo Fancy Dress Theme as it is Friday 13th and unlucky for some. The opportunity for a black cat theme crossed our path earlier in the week with the anniversary of ‘Cats’ so we thought we would be optimistic and look at what we have seen in the way of costumes to do with Luck and games of chance. Obviously top of the tree (or perhaps top ‘o’ the morning) are the leprechauns, now fully back in the game after St Patrick’s Day in March. There are several versions of these lucky Irish elfin folk available on the market in both male and female styles.
An entire fancy dress theme based on luck we though would be too difficult, so Bingo it is!

This year is all about counting so we thought we’d offer a ‘numbers’ fancy dress theme for today. Stuck for ideas, read on and help is at hand…
As you might have noticed, 2011 is a Census year and the procedures for collection of the information on the population are well under way. Not surprisingly then, it was upon this date in 1801 that the first official British Census was undertaken. It’s format was a little different from today’s processes insofar as it was done on a parish basis, with respected local persons such as landowners and clergy collecting the data. Then, having sworn its accuracy before a Justice of the Peace, data was sent to the Home Office for collation and presentation to Parliament.
Under the circumstances we thought we would suggest the theme ‘Out for the Count’, a title as enigmatic and complex as the census form itself. On the one hand, you might think of Count Dracula or the great Count of Sesame Street, others might think that it is an opportunity for a boxing themed costume. We have even had someone who thought it was something to do with Weightwatchers – guilty conscience?
We however came to the conclusion that this theme was just too limiting and decided to broaden it out to include numbers. Hmmmm, we hear you say, that is not that much easier. Ah but it is once you start to think about it. Let us give you some ideas…
