On The Water is today’s fancy dress theme…
Yachting is not a term you would normally find in these blogs, but as today marks the first win of the America’s Cup back in 1851 (i.e. 160 years ago) we thought it deserved a mention – particularly as this is one of the World’s oldest trophies in International sporting events. On the water is therefore the obvious theme today, and aside from the obvious striped and navy blazers and boaters, we can offer you a variety of sailors, both male and female, plus pirates in all shapes and sizes. You might like to go as a parrot (what would a pirate be without one of these?), or you could dress up as a stowaway. Slightly more off the wall suggestions could include items of cargo, such as bananas and other items of fruit (you would not want to be catching scurvy now, would ya?). Treasure chests might make great props, but are not so practical if you are thinking of wearing one. And, as far as we know, there are no treasure chest costumes on the market, although there is the odd trophy or bottle.
