We have had a ‘pop stars’ costume theme quite recently but today we are going to suggest a ‘Rock Stars’ fancy dress party.
Yes, there may well be some overlapping of the two themes, but as well as all the usual costume suggestions, you could also add punk costumes (we stock a great range of punk accessories as well) to the mix. Why not use band names to get some more costume inspiration (dress all in purple for Deep Purple)
So, why did we choose this particular theme today? Well, today December 4th, we can tell the tale of a moment of Rock History. It was on this date in 1971 when, thanks to an accident with a flare gun, the Montreux Casino, at which Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention were playing a concert, burnt down. Close-by, the renowned hard rock band, Deep Purple, were setting up to record a new album using a mobile recording facility (hired from the Rolling Stones) and the Casino complex. Unfortunately having now lost their recording venue, the band had to search for other premises, eventually converting part of an old hotel to meet their needs. The eventual album was ‘Machine Head’ and the incident is commemorated in one of the great rock anthems of all time ‘Smoke On The Water’, inspired by the smoke from the fire drifting over Lake Geneva!
We were thinking of suggesting a Health & Safety theme in honour of this occasion. Someone else suggested ‘Ooops!’ (well, there’s some scope for creativity) but finally we thought that as we are nearing the party season, perhaps now is the time to brush up on your karaoke and air-guitar skills in a ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ style event.
