Today we are recommending a Vicar’s & Tarts Fancy Dress, read on, and the reason for this will (hopefully) become
apparent.
Now Colin Firth might have been in the news quite a bit recently for his performance in ‘The Kings Speech’, but today we want to take you back to an earlier role for him, that of Mr Darcy. No, sorry, for all those of you recalling the wet-shirt scene in ‘Pride and Prejudice’, it’s not THAT Mr Darcy!
Rather the one created by Helen Fielding in her book Bridget Jones’ Diary, which was turned into a film, almost ten years ago (can you believe it!). Now we know sometimes our links can be tenuous but the reason we mention it today is because it is Helen Fielding’s birthday (born 1959). The most memorable image that we are often called on to re-create is that of Bridget’s arrival at what she thought was a Vicars and Tarts party, dressed in a Bunny Girl outfit (only to find the idea had “gone out the window”). We have known a few occasions where jokes have been played and people have arrived at events, finding they are the only one in fancy dress. We hope that you haven’t been the butt of one of these jokes, but if it has happened to you, why not share your story with others and post it in our comments section?
Nowadays when people are invited to a ‘vicars & tarts’ costume party, they tend to wear any religious costume, not just a Vicar’s costume. Props n Frocks has a large range of religious costumes, why not take a look?
A ‘tart’s’ costume can vary depending on the look you are trying to achieve. You could go back to the western era and go in a Saloon girl costume, as they were the tarts of their day. Other popular costumes for this theme include 80′s style Pretty woman Style costumes and sexy Halloween | Gothic costumes. Fishnets and fake eyelashes are a must.
