Jack Frost – wear a white morphsuit (or other white clothing) with icicles
Ice Skater
Despite Christmas still being a few days away, today or thereabouts sees the Winter Solstice, the brief point in time when the polar axis of the Earth is farthest from the star it orbits (aka The Sun). Because a brief moment (which also varies from year to year) is a little difficult to build an entire celebration around, other phrases such as the Longest Night or Mid-Winter are used (even if most regard the worst of winter yet to come and the Met Office says Winter starts on December 1st). Being the longest night of the year, it’s also a great night to have a party and celebrate the festive season with friends, family or work colleagues. By the way if you were reading our blog yesterday and did not get all ten names for the Disney princesses they are as follows:- Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Mulan, Pocahontas, Rapunzel, Snow White & Tiana.
It’s the end of the week and what could we celebrate with a fancy dress theme today? How about a Winter Wonderland in June? Well, it’s the National Day of Iceland, which around this time last year was still in the dog-house after one of its volcanoes erupted and stopped European air-traffic for over a week. As you know, another of Iceland’s volcanoes has also just erupted again. Unfortunately, although the country undoubtedly has many attractions, our thoughts turned to possibly its most famous export – Bjork, plus her quirky outfits (the dead swan Oscar dress was a classic) and outlandish music videos (the dancing post-box from ‘It’s Oh So Quiet’ springs to mind). A theme on ‘The Land of Ice and Fire’ or ‘Winter Wonderland’ might generate some creativity, but perhaps we’re on safer ground by returning to Disney, mentioned yesterday, and note that, again in 1955, Disneyland in California opened.
You could also go to the party is ski- wear, or just dressed for winter, including hat, scarf and gloves. Just think of all the weight you will lose as well!
If you have any other great ideas, drop us a line and let us know…
Today we suggest having a ‘winter wonderland’ fancy dress theme. We do know that over the past few weeks this country has seen a fair amount of snow and other winter weather. As we all know, after the initial enthusiasm, there comes a point beyond which snow ceases to be fun and becomes more of a nuisance and a hazard.
Surprisingly, we find that on this day in 1949 Los Angeles, California saw its first recorded snowfall which was, of course, something of a novelty for them. We can celebrate this fact either by declaring a ‘Winter Wonderland’ theme event (with possible decorative effects provided by Mother Nature) or, if you are past the ‘fun’ stage, going for a ‘Here Comes the Sun’ celebration, even if getting out the surf-boards may be a little extreme.
So, let’s hope you did not pack all your Christmas costumes away just yet as this theme does give you a chance to get them back out again. As the demand for costumes that you can purchase , rather than hire, increases all the time, we think it is important to try and get more than one wear out from any costume, or accessory that you do buy. As the range of costumes improves, so does the quality, with many of the costumes that we sell also able to be fully washed.
So what costume ideas do we have for a Winter Wonderland costume party?
Penguins – we stock a great penguin mask, and also costumes to buy and hire.
Snowmen – in stock all year round, although with the amount of snow we have had, you may not ever want to see another snowman again!
Father Christmas – good ol’ Santa, always a popular costume. Can also be used for a famous person, but is often forgotten. It may be worth taking a look at our range of Christmas costumes to get even more ideas.
