Animal Fancy Dress Theme

We thought we would choose an animal themed costume party today as September 26th is the anniversary of the birth of Hugh Lofting, the creator of Doctor Doolittle. Although there has since been a ‘hijacking’ of the concept by the Americans, the original Doctor Doolittle, lived in Puddleby-on-the-Marsh and, through his ability to talk to animals, undertook a wide-ranging and exciting number of adventures around the world. The original Dr Doolittle film starred Rex Harrison as our hero and featured the Pushmi-pullyu, a llama-like creature with a head at both ends! From the costuming point of view, the outfit had the advantage of neither person having to be the ‘back-end’, but it did require a little co-ordination as to which direction to go in! Given that this date in 1986 also saw the premiere of the ‘Crocodile Dundee’ film, we thought we’d suggest an ‘Imaginary Menagerie’ theme, where you can create your own animal concepts. to help with this theme, we do stock animal tails, noses and ears that you can use as a base for your animal concepts.

If this theme is too limiting why not expand it out to include all animals? Props n Frocks has a huge range of animal costumes and animal face masks. You could even call it a Noah’s Ark party where couples have to arrive in two’s.

Fancy Dress Ideas For The 4th September

On September 4th 1893, Beatrix Potter published her first illustrated work. (How do you ‘do’ Beatrix Potter as a fancy dress costume? You dress up as Harry Potter but magically produce a few bottles of ale at some point – Beer Tricks Potter! Oh, never mind). Anyway, Potter’s work is all about rabbits, hedgehogs, ducks, frogs and other country creatures. Props n Frocks a great range of animal face masks, so why not extend the Beatrix Potter theme to an animal themed fancy dress party?

By co-incidence, this day in 1909, saw the first Boy Scout Rally, so the theme for this Saturday (weather permitting) is The Great Outdoors. Perhaps you could have a Garden themed costume Party, or just revert to that old favourite Flower Power (with a side order of Fruit and Veg – it’s the Harvest Festival season soon!). Gives you a chance to get all your hippy costumes out again!!!!

Out of Africa Costume Ideas

With the World Cup being held in South Africa, we thought we would look at an African fancy dress theme. We get asked for this all the time, but we do find that most people are a bit stuck as to what they can actually go as. With The World Cup being held in the summer, a fur animal costume may be out of the question.

Take a look at our information page for an Out of Africa themed fancy dress party. It will give you some other costume ideas for this great theme including Belly Dancer Costumes and accessories including elephant animal masks
