Yesterday, we were mentioning one heroine from the Edwardian era and today we feature one of the heroes, Sherlock Holmes. Technically of course he did not exist, but was a creation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. However, his ‘fame’ has been ‘recorded’ in book form, films and on television. A recent incarnation was being brought bang up-to-date by Benedict Cumberbatch, who celebrates his 36th birthday today. Aside from the Sherlock Holmes role, he has also taken on the mantle of Stephen Hawking in the BBC drama ‘Hawking; and William Pitt in the film Amazing Grace. Later on this year he can also be heard as Smaug the Dragon and the Necromancer in Director, Peter Jackson’s long- anticipated prequel to Lord of the Rings; ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’, which is due to be released in December 2012.
