My Favourite Fantasy Fancy Dress

Today’s fancy dress costume theme is ‘My Favourite Fantasy’. Now, this theme can basically be as broad as you want it toEdward Scissorhands - Johnny Depp be. For example, ask yourself the following questions and you may get your costume inspiration from your answers.

What did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a Jockey, so for me that is easy as we stock jockey costumes, but what did you want to be?

Who were / are your favourite film stars? Do you hanker to be super cool like our friend Johnny Depp? If yes, you have a large array of costumes to choose from, from Jack Sparrow to The Mad Hatter, Edward Scissorhands and Sweeny Todd

What era would you have liked to live in? Do you like the thought of being a Queen to henry VIII (only for the brave I would say!), or maybe the rather loose moral society of ancient Rome makes you go weak at the knees? Or, do you wish you had been part of the hippy ‘Summer of Love’?

Would You have liked to be a famous singer? We have a great choice of costumes including:

  • Boy George
  • Madonna
  • Michael Jackson
  • Freddie Mercury
  • Ginger Spice
  • Amy Whinehouse

Would you like to live on a desert island? (take a look at our Hawaiian Accessories)

Are you a secret rebel just itching to get out? - take a look at our Punk costumes & accessories.

There are over 55 years separating the ages of the two stars we are featuring today. William Shatner will be celebrating his 80th birthday (born 1931), whilst Reese Witherspoon will be celebrating her 35th (born 1976). Is that all they have in common?   Well, aside from being Captain James T Kirk from the originally Star Trek series, and a cop in the TV series T J Hooker, William Shatner also played a lawyer in the US TV series The Practice and its spin off series, Boston Legal, whilst Reese Witherspoon played legal student cum lawyer Elle Woods, in the two Legally Blonde films.  So for today’s theme, we think you should boldly go where no-one has gone before…be it a ‘What I want to be when I grow up’ or a ‘My favourite fantasy’ party.

Maybe You’ve Always Wanted to Win the Grand National?

My Favourite Fantasy we think should be today’s fancy dress theme for November 13th, as it was in 1940 (seventy years ago) that Disney’s Fantasia was premiered in New York City.  The film was based around various works of classical music, interpreted in pictures. Amongst the offerings was Mickey Mouse as the Sorcerer’s Apprentice, a comic ballet (Dance of the Hours) which was performed by elephants, hippos, ostriches and alligators, plus the story of evolution, as well as the forces of dark and light.  If dressing up as an animal or Disney character is not quite your idea of a fantasy, (although we can naturally accommodate both) and you would like something more exotic, come and see how Props n Frocks can help you make your dreams come true.

Thinking ‘outside of the box’ a bit, you could dress up as your own personal fantasy, this means that if you have always thought that Marilyn Monroe was the person you would have liked to have been, now is the oppportunity to dress up in a Marilyn costume.

Other costume ideas you could also use for this theme include ideas from the theme myths & legends, including fairies, Devils and mermaids, to name just a few examples. So although at first this costume theme seems quite difficult, once you start thinking about potential costumes it opens it right up to a huge amount of costumes that you could wear.
