Why Dress Up In a Fancy Dress Costume

Why is dressing up in a fancy dress costume still so popular? I think one of the reasons is that Why dress up in fancy dressnowadays, we really do not ‘dress up’ for much, with everything being ‘smart casual’. Fancy dress gives us all a chance to step outside of our day to day lives, and become someone, or something else.

Main reason fancy dress works:

  • Creates a great atmosphere straight away
  • Allows guests to circulate away from their own small group – great for work networking, engagements & weddings.
  • Everyone laughs all night long
  • Cheaper than going out and purchasing an entire new outfit
  • Great Pictures, great memories

We are now asked for fancy dress costumes, or accessories for all manner of things including:

  • Dressing up days at school for children, teachers and parent helpers
  • Stag Nights
  • Hen Nights – look at our large range of hen night novelties
  • Engagements
  • Weddings – Medieval / Tudor remaining the top wedding themes
  • Wedding Proposals
  • Work Networking/ Team Building

Dressing up in a fancy dress costume is definitely more popular than it ever has been Today, ‘just up the road’ (well, Cambridge actually) we have CamCon, one of the new fan conventions generated by the rising trend of enthusiasm for ‘cosplay’. This is ‘dressing-up’ but with reference to the Japanese comic-book styles of manga and anime and the wider field of video and on-line gaming. As we were saying recently in connection with some ‘Assassin’s Creed’ costumes we had seen, here at Props & Frocks we have enough fun dealing with the complexities of day-to-day mainstream costuming without getting too involved in these more specialist areas. However, as CamCon and other such events demonstrate, there is a loyal and dedicated fan-base in this growth area. Because of the increasing amount of ‘cross-over’, chances are we may find ourselves becoming more involved as people look to seek out costumes of suitable quality, to match their requirements.

Props & Frocks Fancy Dress is closed today

So it’s a Bank Holiday and, because of the late May holiday shifting a week to accommodate Props n Frocks Opening timesHer Majesty’s Jubilee celebrations in June, it is the only one we get this month. Hopefully the weather will co-operate, but given the last few months’ interesting mix, you never know.

Here at Props & Frocks we are taking a well-earned day off (has anyone ever turned down a holiday, even the Bank-style version, on the grounds that they really have not put in sufficient effort recently?). That’s the theory, but in practice we will be continuing to formulate our strategy for making the Props & Frocks experience even more interesting – we have big plans and are hoping to be unveiling some of them soon.

We are back open tomorrow (as usual 12 noon ’till 8pm for shop customers, but you can order online today, and everyday 24 hours a day.

Props & Frocks Fancy Dress

Talking about the Germans and their carnival fun and games yesterday, we were noting that generally the Continentals do not have Props n Frocks opening times quite the same fancy dress costume hire culture as epitomised in firms such as ourselves here at Props & Frocks: Although during periods of peak party activity, special pop-up shops will open to help supply demand (much in the same way that the major supermarkets in this country, seem to feel that they have to ‘help’ us established firms out, around Halloween and Christmas), for the most part it is down to ‘do-it-yourself’. Of course the world-wide global market place of the Internet is always available and Props & Frocks has an established presence there through this website, but when it comes to a personal service and fresh ideas it is always worth making the effort to come and see us here at Battlesbridge. Take a look at our opening times (right) – we are worth the journey!

However, we do understand that for some people visiting our shop is just not possible. Our online customers are treated in exactly the same way as our shop customers.
