As we come up to American Independence Day (July 4th), spare a thought for those superhero lookalikes for whom times are hard. In beautiful down-town Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, there are a stalwart bunch of men (and women) who dress up as Superman, Batman and other heroes of the silver screen in order to pose for photographs with tourists. Problem is, as if representing those who have saved the world countless times was not enough, some of these icon-imitators have actually sought financial recompense. They are allowed tips, but apparently cannot actually ask for money and as some of them are, the Authorities are not happy. Hence action is being taken to clear these would-be enterprising individuals from the streets, in order to leave the way clear for the more legitimate tourist traps. It is a shame really, for what harm are they actually doing? It is all to do with product licensing, and is a problem that fancy dress shops really do suffer with.
