was born. Who was she we hear you ask? Well, those of a certain age may remember the epic film of 1939 entitled ‘Gone with the Wind’. The author of the original story was Margaret Mitchell, who was born in Atlanta Georgia on November 8th 1900. The American Civil War was the back-story of this film, but not really one to want to build a party upon (unless of course you’re into war gaming or American History). However an Oscars party would be a great idea, especially as this film won eight of them. A book characters party could be another idea or why not have an epic adventure party? This could include characters such as Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara, Indiana Jones or films such as Gladiator, Spartacus or Titanic. Whatever your thoughts, bring them to us at Props n Frocks and we’ll help turn dreams to reality. Check out our range of film costumes for plenty of costume inspiration.

Having an Oscars themed party allows you, as the host, to try and create the right atmosphere. We know of one person, who hired a photographer, to snap the guests as they arrived. They even rigged up lots of flashing lights to give the impression that thre were loads of people taking photos. There are many props you can purchase including costume awards - please note these designs have been changed due to the actual Oscar people getting upset! You could even get your guests to do an acceptance speech (if they win one). Let us know the ideas you have used in the past and any costume ideas you can give to other readers.

There’s no prizes for guessing what fancy dress theme we are going to suggest for September 25th. Famous People born this day include Christopher Reeve (1952) alias ‘Superman’ or should that be Clark Kent? Also Catherine Zeta-Jones (1969) who shares her birthday with her husband Michael Douglas (1944), Mark Hamill also known as Luke Skywalker (Star Wars for you non-Sci-Fi fans) (1951) and the ‘Fresh-Prince of Bel-Air’ Will Smith (1968). We could have also mentioned Felicity Kendal born in 1946, but that would have spoilt the theme.

Got the answer yet?

Well naturally it’s a no-brainer. With such a plethora of acting talent it’s got to be a ‘Stars Of The Silver Screen’ costume party and you know where to come for a great selection of costumes.

Props n Frocks has a huge range of movie costumes for men, women and a great selection suitable for couple costumes for this theme including Dorothy and the other Wizard of Oz Costumes and Princess Leia and Darth Vader. To be honest the costume list is pretty endless with such a range from Star Trek costumes to Superman & other superhero costumes.

This film theme gives such a wide selection of outfits to choose from, it is a great theme to choose for all sizes and budgets.
