Trinity – The Matrix Costume

have had their big breaks in films involving fantasy situations. Kim Cattrall (born 1956) is now best known for her role in ‘Sex and the City’ (although she has recently done stage-work in the UK, including playing Cleopatra). One of her first roles was as an Egyptian princess cursed to become a shop mannequin until she found true love and could come to life. The 1987 film ‘Mannequin’ isn’t that memorable (although Jefferson Starship’s ‘Nothing’s Going To Stop Us Now’, featured in the film’s credits, has stood the test of time) but the fantasy of inanimate objects coming to life, crops up regularly from ventriloquist dummies, to toy dolls such as Chucky, or the toys in Toy Story.

In a different field of fantasy, Carrie-Ann Moss (born 1967) is a Canadian actress seen in Christopher Nolan’s ‘back-to-front’ film ‘Memento’. She is possibly best known for her role as Trinity in the Matrix film trilogy. As most of you may know, ‘The Matrix’ of the film was an elaborate computer constructed reality from which one could only be ‘unplugged’ with difficulty and no little trauma (a similar effect can be observed with those losing a mobile, smartphone or ipod/pad). Today, we encourage you to have a Heroes fancy dress party. We decided that this costume theme was appropriate today as we celebrate the founding of the Victoria Cross by Royal Warrant on January 29^th 1856. This medal, which is the highest that can be bestowed was originally given to those who showed great bravery during the Crimean War, but has since extended to all those who face adversity in the cause of fighting for their country, no matter what their rank.

Now, we don’t have too many medals to give out here at Props n Frocks, unless of course you count the 1960s, 1970s or Dracula medallions, but sometimes it’s nice to celebrate people’s achievements. As the Victoria Cross is normally given to those in the services, we thought a heroes should be called for today.

Now ‘Heroes’ can be interpreted in many ways, only today did we have a couple in the fancy dress shop, just for this particular costume theme, they decided that it meant ‘superheroes’ which does allow you to choose from our huge range of superhero costumes and includes costumes such as Superman, Batman & Robin, The Incredibles, Watchmen costumes, Wonder Woman, Batgirl & Supergirl.

And, then we come to your personal heroes. Now these can range from a football hero, film hero, such as Marilyn Monroe, or maybe you think of your mum as your own hero, it is really down to you.
